THE POWER OF EARTH Earth provides our human body needs for survival. The earth is our foundation that contains and purifies our water and nourishes our garden. Trees and plants provide our oxygen, food, medicine, aroma, and beauty. Stone, clay and sand provide tools and protective housing. Crystal provides communication. Nutrients of the earth is needed for our bodies and brain to operate correctly. When man distroys the earth, man will distroy himself. The garden as a vehicle of nature's perfection and harmony is indeed a rich image. Throughout history and in the mythology of many countries, the image of the garden as a wellspring of spiritual and physical healing power emerges repeatedly. Realizing that herbal and healing gardens have been with us always, since the days when mankind was young, lends richness and depth to our connection with gardens and healing plants today: The garden of Eden described in the Old Testament is the one that most of us know best. Like all of the archetypal gardens, Eden is represented as a place where boundless peace prevailed. Sweet smells filled the air and brilliant flowers shone like precious gems. The Great Tree at the very center of the garden, an often repeated legendary motif, prevailed as the nourisher of all life. This tree was the source of the four great rivers, which went out into the four directions. These rivers, in turn, spread the tree's nourishment throughout the garden, or world. |
